The Lachlan Catchment Management Authority (CMA) is the main co-ordinating agency for Natural Resource Management (NRM) in the Lachlan Catchment of New South Wales. Our primary role is to engage communities in the management of natural resource issues facing the catchment. We are a locally driven organisation acting as a service provider, offering specialist advice and support to landholders and community groups on key issues relating to biodiversity, land and water management and cultural heritage issues.
The Lachlan CMA applies a partnership approach to NRM planning and implementation. Key Lachlan CMA partners include federal, state and local government agencies, Aboriginal communities and groups, peak industry groups (including primary industry groups and related research and development organisations), environmental and conservation groups, individual landholders, adjacent CMAs and other stakeholders. The Lachlan CMA partnership approach ensures the right mix of skills, expertise, motivation, ownership and resources are applied to each NRM project. An adaptive management approach is applied to all aspects of NRM planning and implementation to ensure NRM in the catchment is always at the highest possible standard.
We operate across a comprehensive range of programs under which we invest in to develop and deliver innovative and integrated projects. These programs are based on the four themes of Biodiversity and Native Vegetation, Land Management, Water and Aquatic Ecosystems and People and Community. We also undertake planning and co-operate in research that addresses the causes that have led to a decline in the quality of our natural resources and which are necessary to achieve sustainable and productive landscapes in the catchment.
The Lachlan CMA's head office is located in Forbes with 9 other offices across the catchment. To contact one near you click here.
