CHASM (Catchment Health and Soil Monitoring)

Monitoring soil moisture and soil carbon in mixed farming systems within the Lachlan catchment.

This project establishes a low cost but accurate and reliable way to monitor soil moisture and soil carbon in mixed farming systems in the Lachlan catchment, to gauge the impact of improved management practices. The program will monitor soil health parameters over time to determine changes in water use efficiency and soil organic carbon due to improved management systems.

Key Project Outcomes:

  • Assist 90 farmers by 2013 to increase their uptake of sustainable farm and land management practices that deliver improved ecosystem services
  • Engage 90 land managers and farmers by 2013 to demonstrate an improvement in knowledge and skills in natural resource management
  • 100 Farmers with improved soil management
